I wrote a blog a few weeks ago about how 7 seconds a day is changing our family. In it, I introduced our recently adopted cow. After receiving many hilarious potential names, we decided, thanks to Keisha’s suggestion, to name her “Holy.”
Get it, “Holy Cow?!”
Not only is “Holy” making us laugh, she’s teaching us quite a bit more about the character of God.
I had the privilege this past Sunday of speaking at Woodland Hills Family Church in a series called To Know. The title of the message was To Know: Love.
Telling the story of our adopted cow, one application from that message seems to have caught hold quite well.
Find one moment each day where you sit back and say “Holy Cow, God Loves Me!”
This past Saturday morning I was sitting in bed with our daughter Kennedy playing beside me, and our son Landon snuggled up to me watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Lying together with those two kiddos while Christi sat off in the corner reading her Bible was a “Holy Cow, God Loves Me” moment. I soaked in every second of it.
I had another “Holy Cow, God Loves Me” moment this past Monday when I had the privilege of golfing with three of my closest friends. We golfed in a charity golf tournament. Though we finished dead last in the standings, we were the champions of having the most fun.
Forget ROFL. There were moments we literally rolled on the ground laughing at one another. I got to belly laugh with some of my closest buddies in the world.
These guys love me even if I hit a drive from the tee that hits a tree and ricochets behind us for a negative yard drive. (That may or may not have actually happened.)
“Holy Cow, God Loves Me.”
Be careful though, these moments cannot be captured on video. When you do, you automatically become an observer of the moment rather than a participant in it.
To experience God’s love requires that we sit still long enough, divorced from our phone and other distractions, to allow Him to hold us in the moment.
I want to challenge you this week:
- Do you have moments you stop throughout your day and say, “Holy Cow, God Loves Me?”
- Would you recognize them?

Would love to post the picture here of the fun a few of us had with this on Sunday afternoon at a friend’s graduation/going away party. Someone made photo booth type signs for us to hold while getting our pictures taken. It was a blast and a great keepsake of the whole day. Thanks, Josh. You’ve started something here. 🙂
Our friend, Jerry, has his picture of “Holy Cow” proudly displayed in his living room. A great conversation starter.

Did you see the picture I posted on your FB profile of all us holding up “Holy God, God Loves You” signs?
