Our Podcast Has a New Name. Here’s Why!

July 30, 2017 By Joshua Straub 4 Comments

When we first met about starting a podcast, we had no idea what to call it. Every name we came up with sounded cheesy.

We didn’t want to label it just as a parenting podcast because we talk about marriage too. It needed to reflect family life, no matter what stage you may be in or what you may be going through–married, divorced, soon-to-be married, single, grandparents, parents and blended families.

We also needed a title that people could relate to. We admire people who admit their mistakes and yet, push on. Our hope is that we live that out.

When the time came to launch the podcast, we didn’t have a name we loved. So we settled on a name people could easily find–The Dr. Josh and Christi podcast. Pretty creative, right?

When season 1 ended, we decided to sit down, read listener stories, and find the themes that resonated most with you. It was time to give the podcast a name that more clearly fit what it’s all about–our walking alongside one another–through the good, bad, and sometimes ugly moments–to be families who live, love, and lead well.

That’s when it occurred to us that whatever you may be going through, the picture frames in your home reflect those you talk about and love the most. The people who bring you the most happiness and joy. On the contrary, the people in those frames can also bring you the most frustration and uncertainty. Yet, no matter what, the people in your frames have your back. And you have theirs. That’s precisely what family is all about. Regardless of who’s in your frame, you’re in it together. They are your legacy.

That’s when it clicked…

Welcome to In This Together with Dr. Josh + Christi! A podcast where we hang our figurative crooked picture frame beside yours, to have marriages we’d wish on our kids and raise kids who love God and love others.

With 40,000 downloads in season 1, the podcast is picking up steam!

Season 2 begins this week with our dear friend, Lisa Harper! (Pictured above with her beautiful daughter, Missy).

Let us hear from you! If you have topics you’d like us to cover on the podcast or guests you’d love for us to interview, please email your suggestions to us or comment below.

And as always, subscribe on iTunes, leave us a review and tell your friends about the podcast.

We love walking alongside you!

In This Together,

Dr. Josh + Christi

Love this podcast and currently reading Safe House and loving it. I have one VERY strong willed 4 year old who struggles with regulating emotions. I’d really love to hear an episode on strong willed children, more on discipline and also maybe an episode on when to look outward for support for behavior (currently working on having my child assessed for OT looking at sensory). As a special education teacher I think any information parents can gain on reaching out for additional help and navigating assessment, etc. is also super beneficial as most parents don’t know how to advocate for their kids in that arena. Thank you so much!

So many of us live such busy lives that we sit in So many of us live such busy lives that we sit in our bed at the end of day failing to reflect on what went right. Instead, we silently beat ourselves up.
We feel ashamed for speaking to our spouse the way we did.
We feel scared about a health issue we can’t figure out.
We feel lonely in our work.
We feel inadequate for not being able to fix the faucet.
We feel exasperated by our kids.
We feel sad the day didn’t go as planned.
Then, we fall asleep.
No wonder we wake up uninspired. We meditate on what’s not working.
Death by a thousand cuts.
Somewhere along the way, just like the Israelites, we forget. We forget to heed the age-old wisdom of meditating on the Word both day and night, so that we may be careful to do everything written in it, and be prosperous (Joshua 1:8).
When we don’t reflect on our day through God’s eyes, we wake up the next morning trying to keep going on our own will.
Reflection awakens the soul. Instead of stuffing the ugly, meditating on the bad, and ignoring the good, surrender all of it to God and filter daily circumstances through what His Word says. When you do this you notice the moments that move your soul—the courageous yeses to what connect, inspire, and resurrect the world around us. Life by a thousand brave yeses.

Ever had your kids ask you a question you never th Ever had your kids ask you a question you never thought of before and were left speechless in how to answer? What makes those questions even more intimidating is when they’re questions about the Bible. It’s no wonder discipling our kids can feel overwhelming. But what if you don’t need to know all of the answers?
In this week’s episode, @joshua.straub and @christistraub talk about the ways we can resource our kids in not only looking for answers to their questions, but also falling more in love with Jesus. They also talk about how their new devotional, 10 Days of the Easter Story: A Family Experience Through the Feelings of Holy Week, is structured and written as a framework for getting our kids engaged in the stories of Scripture.
